DEALING WITH CARPET BEETLES ON YOUR OWN

Unlike other insects, carpet beetles are extremely difficult to control, for the simple reason that they are everywhere. They usually enter our homes through open doors and windows. They are not affected by repellents, and nothing stops them from infesting your home in the long run. The only thing you can do yourself is strictly hygienic maintenance and regular treatment of carpets with hot steam. If you cannot handle the problem by yourself, we will be happy to help.

APPEARANCE

The carpet beetles are 3mm in length, black in colour with irregular white spots. They have brown-black transparent wings. The larvae are about 5mm long and are very hairy. Because of their appearance, they are known as “wool bears”.

BEHAVIOUR

Like moths, carpet beetles feed on textiles made from animal fabrics, as well as silk, a canvas of paintings and books, but they are best known for feeding on carpets and hence their name carpet beetles. Light attracts them as well as some types of flowers, but their activity is mostly observed at night. According to our research, some people often confuse carpet beetles with bed bugs. Carpet beetles don`t bite, but their larvae can cause an allergic reaction to human skin, and its appearance is very similar to a bed bug bite.
It is known that in the UK in almost every house the floor is covered with carpet. That’s why Carpet beetles are a widespread pest in London.
